What are you reading?

I've been reading a lot more lately. I've recently finished Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, the Subtle Knife, and 1984.

Recently (sort of) I finished the most recent book in the wheel of time series, The Gathering Storm which I thought was excellent. Now I'm on the second book of the Mistborn trilogy which is written by the author that Robert Jordan selected to help finish the WoT books, Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn (the first book) was very very good and The Well of Ascension is equally good so far.

After I finish this series I plan on moving on to a new series by Trudi Canavan who wrote the Magician's Guild trilogy which I enjoyed immensely. I'm hoping her next endeavor is on par with her previous works. I also need to get back on the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz as I'm already two books behind. Really I'm very far behind on quite a few books and series' but better to be way behind than have nothing to read I suppose.

I've read a few good ones recently or somewhat recently. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (finished it some time ago but it's worth mentioning) was a particularly good read and has me anxiously awaiting the second book. I'm sure Zero is in the same boat with me on this one.

A Song of Ice and Fire which is a series by George R. R. Martin with 4 books so far is also excellent. I guarantee that once you finish A Game of Thrones you'll devour the rest of the series in short order. It's slated to be 7 books I believe but he's been working on number 5 for several years now so who knows when that will come to fruition.

And finally it's not really something I'm reading right now but Towers of Midnight (book 13 in the Wheel of Time series) is due out next week and I'm very much looking forward to that.

I've finished Olympos and Imajica by Clive Barker. I'm starting to read Paul of Dune. What else should I read?

What did you think of Imajica Lethal?

It was really well written and I was satisfied with the ending. No loose ends.

I like how Clive made Hapexamendios. It was creative and tied in concepts of the reconciliation.

He has awesome characters. Most of them are complex and dynamic, which is far from the norm in writing.

I totally agree. That's my favorite book. Most of his other stuff is really good too. Everville, The Great and Secret Show, Weaveworld, Mr. B. Gone, all three of the Books of Blood.

I don't read too much of your sci-fi stuff but if you want fantasy I can oblige. The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is very good. There is also a series by Brent Weeks call the Night Angel trilogy that is also amazing.

Recently I started the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Probably the best series I've read in a long time. I've read reviews that compare it to The Lord of Rings books in a positive light which is pretty impressive.

I'm done with The Dragon Reborn. It's still good, but I'd be a billionaire if I had a penny for every time Robert Jordan had a character give a start.

Heh, gets worse before it gets better. "Embraced saidar/saidin" gets a little out of hand too.

Good call on Wheel of Time. I just finished the first book and I already think it's much better than LotR.

I'd like more comparisons to LotR in a negative light. :P

I'll start Wheel of Time too.

I'm currently reading Foundation by Isaac Asimov for my Sci-Fi lit class, and just finished War of the Worlds for said class.

I just finished Eragon, Endymion, The Rise of Endymion, and the Amber Spyglass.

I'm now reading Eldest (Second book of Eragon series), Olympos (Second book of Ilium series), and Dune.

On another note, if you haven't read anything by Dan Simmons, then make your life complete by reading the Hyperion series. His Ilium series is worthwhile too.

In your opinion, has Chris's writing improved since the first two books?

I've read 1984, and HGG too, they were pretty good... but right now I'm reading The Sirens of Titan, Hannibal Rising and In the Country of the Young.. I recently finished Piercing which was as vulgar as it was good.

I just finished the Cleric Quintet (again) and now I've started a book called The Outstretched Shadow. I was on a big Dragonlance stretch for awhile there but now I feel like reading the Dark Tower series (again) so that's probably next.
