What are you playing?

I noticed that we have a what are you watching, and what are you reading thread and yet dont have a what ar eyou playing thread so here it is.

Right now i just started playing Fable II i've been playing for quite awhile now and so far i like it. I'm also playing Socom for the ps3 its fun if you like tactical shooters. Recently i've beaten Dead Space and Saints Row 2 and i enjoyed both of them.

Dead Space was a good survival horror and i recommend it to anyone who likes such games the controls are smooth and the atmosphere is very tense with a lot of nice scares.

Saints Row 2 is almost the opposite of GTA4 whereas GTA went for a more "realistic" approach SR2 was a bit over the top and more cartoony which works well for it. It also has a lot of fun stuff to do such as insurance fraud where you get to jump infront of oncoming traffic and Fuzz where you get to arrest people using extreme violence.

You will have to login before you can respond to Zero.

Man I'm boring: Same series as last time, different games: Pokemon Heart Gold and SMT: Strange Journey.

I started playing a friend's copy of bioshock the other day.... uhhhmmm.... turns out I am a baby and got scared playing it.

Okay, been too long since somebody posted in here so here goes.

Right now I'm playing Modern Warfare 2 until Final Fantasy XIII comes out tomorrow but theres been quite a few good releases that I've enjoyed recently.

Bayonetta was great fun once they finally patched it and fixed the load times on the PS3 version. Great combat and it was pretty funny most of the way through despite the strange story.

Dante's Inferno I had a ton of fun with but the last few circles fell a bit flat for me. Enemy design stopped being so surprising/disturbing but it was still generally good all the way through.

Darksiders was amazing even with it ripping off so many aspects of other games and I've rarely gotten excited over an ending as much as I did over that one.

I'm most of the way through BioShock 2 and I like that one a lot but I don't think it's quite as good as the first installment was. I think the shock value of the atmosphere wore off a bit but the new combat style made up for it a bit.

I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting but maybe this will spark some conversation around here.

Conversation? In this ghost town? :P

I've played FFXIII. It's kind of too easy. You only control one character and your nakama follow behaviors defined in a paradigm, like punch the enemy in the nuts or avoid getting punched in your nuts. You also don't have to worry about healing outside of battle. Every fight you start with full HP. The fighting is real time, like Chrono Trigger, and each move takes a number of bites out of an action bar, like Chrono Cross. No XP in this one. After several chapters, your characters will be able to use magic. At this point, you will be able to expand a skill map, with HP/MP upgrades, by killing enemies.

It's alright so far. I need to play it more.

Hey anyone remember Stella Deus for the Ps2? I'm starting to play that again- I think I'm finally nearing the end and not another story arch.

<Dignus is a jerk and we need to stop him> <Oh we need to go to this shrine first for some reason> <Oh this is just a statue of the Shrine- we must fight 3 gods first> <All right now we can finally stop him> <But wait there's a secret cult akin to the Illuminati are irl. We must actually beat them so beating Dignus was a colossal waste of time> <Ah fuck we're secretly in purgatory and must beat all the levels and play through all the story archs again- jk... but if that does happen I'm throwing out the ps2> -_-

That would be cheap. Like the collect-a-thon at the end of Wind Waker but worse.

Now that my Wii is special, I'm playing MadWorld and No More Heroes. If you haven't played either, then I would suggest you give them a whirl. :) They both are outside the normal Wii demographic. Both feature gushers of blood and MadWorld is scored on violence.

Devil Summoner 2 and Devil Survivor... I feel like a bit of a loser

Don't feel bad. Who doesn't like to play Pokémon? I mean Shin Megami Tensei! Why does that keep happening?

Added 1 year ago by supergogogirl - permalink

I'm going to try and GTS it up; but I understand that that is silly to try and use- I wouldn't know because I'm used to pokesav (best pokemon savefile hacking game ever) and our wireless here is WPA protected (oppose to wep key) so it doesn't work with my ds; but I will talk to my room mate tonight and make it happen and hopefully get me some evee's/ditto without using Mr. Backlot

Just got Wolfenstein. Here's some of my gameplay for your viewing pleasure.

EDIT: More gameplay and yet more gameplay.

Added 1 year ago by Hanpan - permalink

I've been playing quite a bit of Wipeout HD courtesy of the Lethal. I'm actually kind of surprised, I'm not much for racing games, but I'm really enjoying this one. Any good hints or tips Lethal?

Added 1 year ago by lethal - permalink

Eyes are fine for the first few levels of speed, but for phantom and higher I recommend using a neural shunt. That game is a serious pain, but fun. Just keep playing and you'll get better, like Guitar Hero.

I finished Resistance. I can't wait for the next release. The story line and enemy design are great.

I'm currently playing LittleBigPlanet and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Added 1 year ago by Zero - permalink

How did you like MSG4, lethal? Personally, its one of my favorite games and justified my ps3 purchase all by itself.

Added 1 year ago by lethal - permalink

It is perfect with few exceptions, no trophies and the install at the beginning of every act. Otherwise, the graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is flexible, and it has a great level of immersion. If it ever gets trophies, I'll buy my own copy.

Added 1 year, 10 months ago by Zero - permalink

Now i'm playing Fallout 3 so far it seems like its going to be a very long game which is good. I finished Fable II and i was kind of dissapointed on how short it was and how little there is to do once you actually finish the game.

I've been playing Mass Effect lately, along with getting back into Halo multi-player

Just played the demo for Batman:AA and i can't wait for this game to come out.

* Added 1 year ago by lethal - permalink

I just tried that out. I thought it was going to be another mindless beat 'em up, but Batman is not invincible. Batman needs to be stealthy when facing assault rifles and the gameplay during these portions is flexible. The player can do whatever they want at their own pace. The AI is interesting too. String someone up from a gargoyle, which are inside an asylum for some reason, and everyone has to take a look. After that, they scuttle around swinging their firearms around while speaking some believable, nervous dialog. The stealth portion is made easy by Batman's X-ray specks, or what the developers call Detective Mode.

Nice way to jerk the player around at the end of the demo too. Play it to see. :D

Speaking of demos, I also played the Crystal Defenders demo. It's a camouflaged tower defense game. Instead of towers, we get SNES era Final Fantasy sprites. I'm kinda confused why they released this for the PS3 when it would be more of a fit graphics-wise for the PSP. The object of the game is to stop a string of monsters starting at point A from reaching point B, which is connected by the yellow brick road. You do this by placing a combination of purchased warriors, black mages, and archers on the grass on around the road. You can't put anyone on the road because it's hot lava to your slaves just as the grass in hot lava to the monsters. After that, if you've placed other tower defense games, then you've played this one.

I've been playing a bit of Prototype on my Xbox, a game called Cross Edge on my PS3 and I just downloaded Final Fantasy VII from the Playstation Store so that will probably take a bit of my time too.

* Added 1 year, 2 months ago by lethal - permalink

I played prototype too. Am I the only one who thinks it's too easy?

How is ffvii? Updated or still blocky Pop-eye?

Added 1 year, 2 months ago by Hanpan - permalink

It's just a direct port. Still blocky and ugly. Classic.

Added 1 year, 2 months ago by Zero - permalink

I enjoyed prototype the gameplay at least the story was meh, though i did like being able to shoot through the city all quick like.

I've been playing Infamous so far i really enjoy this game i've beaten it once being evil(Shock) and i've started on good. The really like the story in this one and the gameplay is fun too.

Added 1 year, 2 months ago by lethal - permalink

Just got done with X-Men Origins Wolverine. If you like good controls, I recommend giving this a shot. Wolverine always moved as I intended and mauled who I willed him to. If you like Prototype's gore, you will also enjoy the vivisection, beheading, and impaling of this masterpiece. :)

I'm also trying out the new Transformers game, Revenge of the Fallen, coming out this week. The controls are something to get used to, see transitioning from vehicle mode to performing a ground pound. It's pretty entertaining as far as I've gotten. It's another 360 game that gives you an achievement for wiping your nose though.

I've been playing a lot of PSN games as of late.

  • Flock!
  • Astro Tripper
  • Cuboid

Out of the three, I like Astro Tripper the most. It can be a pain in the butt, like many top-view shooters, but still fun, like many top-view shooters. I'm still trying to get the Tank Sympathizer trophy. Cuboid is fun, but I have already beaten it in full. It has a trophy for eight hours of playtime and I haven't gotten it yet! Flock! is great, but the controls are annoying as hell. At times, the animals will not stay on the same screen as you and other times they will not move when you are right on top of them! The animals don't flow well either. It seems like the animals see libelous notes to about their mothers if they get too close to the walls and nothing will move them until they realize they have no money for forensic analysis. Otherwise, I recommend Flock.

I have also been enjoying one of my old favorites, Secret of Mana for the SNES.

On tuesday, I'm going to pick up Dyntasy Warriors: Gundamn 2!

Added 1 year, 5 months ago by Zero - permalink

I've been playing KZ2 and now Resident Evil 5

Added 1 year, 6 months ago by lethal - permalink

Noby Noby Boy is fun and wacky. I already have all the trophies on it though. It's still a good value at the price.

I also picked up Burnout Paradise since it dropped to $20.

I'm looking forward to Kill Zone 2. I'm kinda getting burnt out on shooters though. There's more than an over-saturation of them on current consoles.

Added 1 year, 6 months ago by Hanpan - permalink

I might have to get Burnout to play with you since it dropped. Might be fun.

Added 1 year, 6 months ago by lethal - permalink

It's pretty good. It doesn't have the crash challenges of earlier versions. I enjoy the stunt and road rage events most of all. It has about a thousand trophies, if you care about that sort of thing. ;P

Added 1 year, 7 months ago by Hanpan - permalink

Right after Christmas I picked up a game for my PS3 called Valkyria Chronicles.

I don't know if any of you guys have heard of it or played it but it's somewhat of a SRPG but instead of a grid to move on (Disgaea, FFT, etc.) you get a view of the current map and when you click on a character to use them it zooms into a third person perspective for you to run and shoot.

I'm really enjoying it. Good story, great gameplay and lots of customization.

I'm currently playing Fallout 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Haze, and Far Cry 2.

Has anyone else played Far Cry 2 here? Am I alone in thinking it's the most repetitive game? The endless guard posts and the roaming jeep patrols are annoying as hell.

Added 1 year, 8 months ago by Zero - permalink

I heard farcry 2 was very repetitive so i skipped on that one. I for one didnt really enjoy Haze as much as i hoped i would it was kinda...not good. Fallout 3 was amazing though.

* Added 1 year, 8 months ago by lethal - permalink

I liked Haze but it was too short.

Added 1 year, 8 months ago by supergogogirl - permalink

Persona 4, however anyone who knows me can't be surprised.

Also holy-freaking-crap repetitive storyline; the first 4 (arguably 5) so far dungeons have the same freaking premises.

And I dunno but there will likely be one more the same because there's been one for every party member.

All you with your fancy next gen boxes, I'm too poor, lol i just picked up Elder Scrolls Oblivion, looks pretty good so far, how is Fable 2? it looks awesome

Added 1 year, 10 months ago by Hanpan - permalink

I've been playing Fable II a bit also. Haven't gotten too far into it but it's quite good so far.

Before that came out I was playing Disgaea 3. A lot of Disgaea 3. Hit the level cap and was well into end game stuff when Fable came out and interrupted me.

Added 1 year, 10 months ago by supergogogirl - permalink

I just got Disgaea 3 and playing that... though shouldn't cause still playing disgaea 1 on DS ...

I recently bought a PS3, so I've been exploring its titles, thanks to Zero.

So far I've played through Assassin's Creed and Heavenly Sword. AC has a great storyline and game play. HS is, as Hanpan perfectly puts it, Goddess of War. The theatrics and voice acting are great in HS though.

I'm currently playing through Resistance, Wipeout HD, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Resistance, if you haven't played or read about it, is the premier shooter for PS3. The Halo of PS3. I plays a lot like Quake in my opinion. Wipeout HD is F-Zero and Mario Kart's baby. It's one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. I shouldn't have to tell anyone here what GT5P is like.

If anyone wants to send me a Friend Request, my name is LethalFeline.

Added 1 year, 9 months ago by Zero - permalink

Recently bought Resistance II and Gears of War II, haven't played gears yet but the multiplayer on Resistance is pretty fun it gets crazy with 8 people playing co-op.

* Added 1 year, 10 months ago by lethal - permalink

I forgot to mention Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. It has a mixture of platforming and third-person shooting. The cinematics and voice acting are superb.
