Unreal Tournament 3 Forever
RANT WARNING
It's been four months since the release of UT3 and I've yet to see any progress on the Linux, or Mac, version of this game.
This would not be so bad except for the fact that it is impossible to get any information. I'm currently part of the UT3 port mailing-list and I've seen several attempts to acquire updates on progress without so much as a "We're working on it." I can't even remember the last time Ryan, the lead developer, has sent anything to the list. It's not a proper way to treat customers, no matter how few the number.
I have been patient with this, for four months. I need a release date for a beta at very least now. I don't want Duke Nukem Forever to come out before I even an update on the release time table for UT3.
According to the port developer, Ryan Gordon, UT3 for Linux and Mac is still being worked on. He does not indicate if it will be this in century or the next though.
From the ut3 mailinglist on icculus.org, today:
...since I imagine that the notice of mailing list software change will spark a (well deserved) round of complaints--after all, I have been largely absent from this list despite the cries for updates--I just wanted to drop a note and say that the UT3 linux and mac work is still ongoing. Largely we're just optimizing and fixing annoying bugs at the moment.
No release date at the moment. Yes, I know we're already 16 months late. I'm sorry, we'll get you the game as soon as we can.
Thanks for your eternal patience,
--ryan.
I feel your pain. I too have been waiting for good news on a UT3 Linux client. I wonder what part of code is caught up in legal? UT is one of the few FPS I like, and I thank you for turning me on to it. WE NEED UT3 FOR LINUX!
I wonder what part of code is caught up in legal?
It has been speculated that it is the Ageia PhysX middleware.
