Computer Upgrade
I must apologize, it seems I always come here with my tech problems, but I consistently get answers and it's always always always after I try to figure it out myself.
I bought ram today to upgrade my laptop, except I'm not sure whether my max. memory capacity is 2gb or 4gb. (Side question, if a computer's max memory capacity is 2gb, can you use one 2gb ram sticks, or do you need two 2gb.)
My problem arises due to the fact that there seems to be a million versions of Dell's inspiron 1501, and I tried searching the proc, and didn't have any luck.) That being said my proc is "AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TK-53" - also if my proc is as old and as bad as logic dictates it should be (I paid $600CDN 2 years ago) I'd like to defend myself that the plan was to buy a new laptop but then realized I'm broke and it would cost 1/10th to get this up to par as it would to buy an new half deccent laptop.
According to the specifications, it can take 2GB modules. This RAM would work fine. Make sure to use two sticks whatever you do. That's the only way to get dual channel to work.
Also, don't apologize! I'm happy to see any posts on DCI!
Awesome, thanks so much :-)
Haha, I never have anything relevant to post- I pretty much only play my DS and I'm not sure if anyone else here plays it.
sigh I remember being able to buy new games. lost job in march and current job gives me 1 shift a week if I'm lucky HDDing my ps2 and getting an M3 has really helped, a lot.
I need to get me an M3. It would go well with my special 360. wink wink nudge nudge Where's a good place to get an M3?
Well I got my M3simply when they first hit the market and it's firmware doesn't get updated anymore so new games are hit and miss. I think there is someway to get them to work but there has never been a game that doesn't work that I'd absolutely have to play.
That being said I'd go with an R4. Which you can get for cheap here: http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/catalog/R4DS-SDHC-NDS-Lite-Backup-Solution-p-2874.html
That being said the last time I price compared was 9 months ago. :-)
Just ordered my R4! Depending on my experience with ConsoleSource, I'll probably be getting a DriveKey next. Shame they can't ship PS2 modchips to the US.
You can hack your wii without any form of mod chip Lethal- Just use the Twilight Princess Exploit, and you're more or less good to go.
That's weird they won't ship ps2 modchips- again alternate solution- hard drive your ps2 up. It's a bit more pricey than modding (not by a lot) and you don't need to worry about finding or switching burnt discs.
Too my knowledge. I've seen/played Wii games in action and I was assured Gamecube would work as well.
And wii ware! - It's far too easy
Related note my M3 is starting to die- had to adjust M3/Micro SD position about 10 times before it would load and I'm thinking about getting:
http://www.ishopvideogame.com/ezflash-vi-simplify-edition-for-dsi-ds-lite-p-1601.html
Because it may be the only one that connects with the Wii (there may be others, and it actually might not I've only read it from one source on the internet) broke my heart.
PS: Super tired at the time of writing this so if I'm not making sense I apologise.
EDIT: I lied apparently G6/cyclo/acekard all can- I'll look into this more when I'm not so tired... I'm hoping I will be able to get a non-DSi compatible one for cheap because they are not the way of the future.
Any word of what you're doin'?
PS: I have 200 pogeymanz. And am tempted to use my GBA action replay in lieu of not finding my copy of leaf green
You're welcome. I've run into a bit of snafu with my upgrade.
I updated my Os to Ubuntu 9.04 64bit style.
It seems to be running slower/frusteratingly and adobe is all like "hey I could install but I would be slightly more of a bitch to install than normal cuz your using a 64 bit os now." And I'm using swfdec flash or something which I evidently hate because every flash site lags and every flash "click on this thing in flash" doesn't work....
I'm looking for a suggestion more than actual help... should I: revert to a 32 bit version of Ubuntu? spend time figuring out how to install abode flash/ would Macromedia flash work nicely? Venture out for a different version of linux? (I didn't like Xubuntu but that's because it didn't install properly and won't boot up often and when it did it sometimes crashed- so I didn't really get used to it)
Also the slowness of my computer seems to just be when I have a flashbased site open...
Installing Flash on 64-bit linux isn't too bad.
- Go to http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
- Download the file at the bottom of the page.
- Extract the tarball after download, tar -xzvf libflashplayer-10.0.22.87.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz
- Copy the extracted file to your plugins directory, cp libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/
- Restart firefox and you'll be good to go.
Next time, use 32-bit unless you have more than 4GB of ram. 64-bit linux is the source of tons of headaches. :)
Ah thanks for the advice :-) I found the file but the instructions on Adobe's website weren't really helpful. :-D
Update So since zsnes didn't want to install on 64 Ubuntu either I decided to go back to a 32-bit OS. So I've been using Xubuntu but I don't like it- somethings would take 2 seconds to fix (Installing Open Office instead of Abiword) others would take some time/knowledge (making items from the applications menu draggable to put them in a taskbar) And there are some others.
So... as soon as I get around to backing-up the few files that have been added since my last back-up I will be trying Mint linux.
